Our Team

As a whole, the staff here will often refer to the practice as a "family." Although all from different backgrounds and not related at all, we consider our close-knit office a family and a team. Although we do not share genealogy, we share certain traits. Whether you come in the morning or afternoon, you will see right away that no matter who you come in contact with, we all are caring, cheerful, delightful and dedicated to your care.

While we may all bring our individual personalities and gifts, it's the common thread that brings us together as a family. We all work together to provide personal care to every patient that walks in the door, from start to finish and would not settle for anything less than a "family" atmosphere. As a patient, it will be hard to ignore the fact that we are in it for your care and complete health, both present and future.

Dr. Matt BolandPicture of Dr. Matt Boland

Chiropractic care made Dr. Matt Boland want to be a chiropractor.

During his junior year of high school, a serious car accident put Dr. Boland in the hospital for a week. The floorboard of his car jammed his leg into an awkward position and the ER doctors gave him pain medication. When he left the hospital his leg still hurt.

The pain got to the point that it was nearly unbearable. After shopping around for a medical cure, Dr. Boland's father took him to a chiropractor. The chiropractor realigned his jammed leg and the pain was gone after the first visit.

Five years later, during his senior year of college, Dr Boland partially dislocated his shoulder in a game of rugby. He went to the ER in excruciating pain. They gave him a Cortisone shot that numbed his shoulder so he couldn't feel anything. Dr. Boland went home and fell asleep.

2 hours later the pain was back; it was so intense that it jolted him awake. The shot had worn off prematurely, but he couldn't get another one for at least a week. The hospital doctors had failed once again, so he went back to the chiropractor.

His chiropractor set his shoulder straight and aligned his arm. Dr. Boland was healed, again, after one adjustment. However, being an invincible 22-year-old male, and popped his shoulder out again within 3 days. The chiropractor set it a second time, and there have been no complications since.

Because of the care he'd received, Dr. Boland decided to go to Chiropractic College to become a chiropractor. He lived in Chicago and had the opportunity to work in a small practice where he gained first-hand knowledge on how to run chiropractic as a business. In 1988 he moved back home to Central PA and opened a practice in Harrisburg.

Today Dr. Matt Boland is one of the premier chiropractors in the area. He was the first to offer Spinal Decompression in the Capital Region.

Karen grew up in Queens, New York and pursued a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Hunter College.  After working for 26 years in hospitals on medical surgical floors she developed a desire to become greater involved with hands on patient care and so decided to further her education and get her nurse practitioner’s degree.  She moved to Central PA in the 1990’s with her husband Joe and three children and began her training at Penn State University and achieved her degree in 2000.  She has practiced as a CRNP (Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner) for the past 10 years and taught undergraduate nursing students as well.  In the past few years she developed an interest in non-pharmacological pain management. This interest is what brought her to work at East Shore Medical & Pain Management.  She liked the idea of combining traditional medicine with rehab and felt that East Shore Medical offered her the opportunity to pursue just that.

In her spare time she enjoys bowling and is a member of a local team known as the “Stormers.”  Her three children are now grown and her daughter is pursuing a nursing career and following in her footsteps. Her eldest son is working in the business and finance field outside of Philadelphia and her other son works as a therapeutic support assistant with families dealing with autism Her husband Joe has had a long career as a quality control manager in the electronics and plastics field and is currently working for Tyco electronics.

MichaelPicture of Michael

Michael is originally a Michigander, and has been in the Chiropractic Field for 28 years, and with us since Oct '08. His primary function in the practice is insurance and accounts, while also doing his best to help keep the cantankerous computers holding up their end of the bargain. Technology and gadgets have always been one of his major interests! We've just completed a major undertaking of fully upgrading computer software to integrate Electronic Health Records, electronic billing and more, working towards a "paperless" office, which just enhances Dr. Boland's cutting edge practice.

When Michael's away from the office, he loves golf, photography, cooking, the outdoors, staying active, and LIFE in general.

Deborah has worked the morning shift with Dr. Boland since 1997.  While there have been many new and exciting changes to the practice one thing is a constant- Deborah loves the hands on interaction with the patients.  Along with the other team members she has the privilege of seeing firsthand the strides of improvement each patient makes as they become part of the East Shore Medical "friends and family" circle.  Although most of her family has migrated from New jersey to central PA Deborah still frequently makes the trek back to northern New Jersey where her beloved daughter, Meaghan and son-in-law, Jefre still reside.
